Belogradchik Rocks

Rocks are rock figures as high as 200 m, located in West Fore, near the town of Belogradchik. The rocks vary in color from pure red to yellow. Many of the rocks have fantastic shapes and are involved in interesting legends. They are often called on people or objects that resemble or remind. Rocks are listed as natural landmarks of the Bulgarian government and the main tourist attraction in regiona.Obrazuvat strip length of 30 km and width up to 3 km. Included in the list of hundred tourist sites. Rocks consist of three rock groups. They were declared a natural landmark in 1949
At the end of Palaeozoia, about 230 million years ago, the rock-bearing rocks were deposited in this area. Later, they were overwhelmed by a sea at the bottom of which sand, gravel and clay were deposited. Over time, these materials were connected by a sand-clay joint. Conglomerates and sandstones were thus obtained. The reddish color is due to iron oxides and hydroxides. As a result of the Young Tepic Cycle, the complex was turned to the ground and Belogradchik region fell into the center of a large crack. Under the influence of water, winds and temperature fluctuations, limestones from these parts were destroyed and revealed the highly cracked conglomerates. Thus, for millions of years, nature has sculpted sculptures of mythical beings, humans, animals and birds from the shapeless stone. More than 100 caves were formed in the sandstone and limestone.
