Shipka is the peak in the Balkan Mountains at an altitude of 1326 meters east of Shipka Pass. Until November 23, 1951 the top named St. Nicholas, then to October 7, 1977 - Mount Stoletov.Varhat symbolizes heroism and selfless efforts for the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.

In 1934, the top is a monument of freedom, to which leading automobile road and stone staircase. The monument is part of the Park-museum "Shipka". Shipka is called top (height 1232 m), located north of the main ridge and west of Shipka Pass.

During the Russo-Turkish War (1877 - 1878) at the beginning of August 1877, General Nikolai Stoletov organize the defense of the Shipka Pass and has Shipka squad (which includes and 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Battalion of the Bulgarian volunteer corps ) of the vertex St. Nicholas, Mount Eyrie and Shipka. Decisive battles are held from 21 to 26 August 1877 defenders showed extraordinary heroism and despite the numerical superiority of the enemy attacks were repulsed.
