Fuji
The volcano Fuji (at the Japanese Fuji-san富士山or in English Hepburn romanization Fuji ) is located on the island of Honshu and is the highest point of the Japanese Islands - 3776 m. The volcanic activity has abated (last eruption, about 1707 AD), when the volcanic ash reached Tokyo , 100km away. Now the crater is covered almost all year round with thick snow cover except during July and August , when the best time to climb.
Mt. Fuji is not only a miracle of nature, but also a sacred place. Buddhists revere him as a gateway to the Netherworld. The crater of the volcano is known as Nayin ( Sanctuary ). Fuji-san prominently in ancient Japanese religion Shinto , whose followers believe that rocks, trees, and all natural forms are inhabited by gods and spirits.
With its snow-covered conical tip gracefully descending slopes and perfectly round shape of the base, Fuji is very beautiful. Rising rapidly skyward from almost sea level , in clear weather it is visible from a distance of 80km. Fuji-san is a young volcano - appeared before about 600,000 years. There are known 18 thereof eruptions .
It is best to find yourself on top of Fuji at sunset, when the sky like a huge palette glow amazing colors. By the 1868 's, it was forbidden to climb to the top women. According to the Japanese it is unacceptable not to climb Fuji at least once in their lives as ridiculous to climb more than once.
Most visited mountain in the world is precisely Fuji-san.
